This core course revolves around the optimal and judicious use of knowledge and other specified resources to manage defence and security in peacetime, and to prevent an armed attack against the state. It is also about how to use those resources in wartime to contain an attack or to prosecute it. However, the course is neither about the actual prosecution of a war nor theories and doctrines of war, which are covered elsewhere. The course will provide a valuable guide to students and policy makers alike on major issues related to national security, defence, strategy and geopolitics. It will also provide them a framework for interpreting and understanding current events and place them in a bigger picture.
