In this course, students are required to prepare, write and present a publishable paper on any topic in linguistics/language. The paper should be high-quality work. In addition to the classes for the course, students will be expected to attend all staff/student seminar presentations, in which either students or academic staff discusses the findings from their on-going research. Academic staff members are strongly encouraged to attend the student presentations to give necessary feedback to the presenters.

At the beginning, each student will be required to present a brief concept of their paper. These concepts will form the basis of the paper-writing, and the basis for the assignment of supervisors. The writing process will be discussed by all students in all the class sessions, through discussion of readings and presentations of various parts of the articles. Students are encouraged to seek assistance from any staff member in the department while working on their paper. By the eighth week of the semester, the first draft of the paper should be ready for presentation. This paper will be graded as course work.
