Course Objective(s)

This course is designed to impart necessary knowledge to students carrying out geological mapping in selected terrains.

Also the course intends to help students acquire knowledge on how to generate geological maps and cross-sections from the mapping data.

 

Learning Outcomes:

By the end of this course, students should be able to:

Carry out geological mapping in areas with complex terrain.

Make a detailed geological map using the data obtained during mapping.

Generate the geological report and cross-sections from the geological mapping data.

Outcrop descriptions; structural measurements; survey methods.

 

Course Content

Geological mapping in the field by recording surface outcrops information from various rock types; Geological Map preparations; Generation of Geological cross-sections; Geological mapping report writing.

 

Assessment

Field (log) notebook [10%],Geological Map and sections [25%] and Report [15%],Final examination [50%].
