Course description

This course is an independent literature-based technology review that requires students to integrate previous knowledge and skills gained during geological course-work into a coherent self-learning package. This will allow individual students to demonstrate their ability to understand and evaluate the applications of technology to geological interpretation in hydrocarbon exploration and production.

Learning outcomes

At the end of the course the student should be able:

•           To demonstrate the ability to provide a concise, objective view of a technology application in Geology

Course content

All students will evaluate the same technology, which will be chosen by the core leader(s). A brief introductory lecture will outline the technology and provide no more than 3 papers that constitute a foundation for the review. Students must expand the literature for their review and provide an illustrated short report that summaries the value of the technology the geological users. Emphasis will be placed on the ability of students to create concise synopses of subject matter that communicate their understanding in a clear focused manner.

Assesment: A written report: (100%) in the form of a paper
