With a growing global market, the spread of the internet, and continuing disparity between developed and developing countries, intellectual property assumes a major role in cross-border litigation, licensing, and diplomatic activity. This course examines intellectual property law and policy in the international arena. The course surveys international intellectual property law as reconfigured by the new universal standards embodied in the TRIPS Agreement. The course exposes the legal implications of the new international IPRs standards in the light of earlier Conventions and Treaties. Other topics will include the interface with competition law; dispute settlement; enforcement provisions and the overall implications between developed and developing countries in an integrated world market.
