The course is intended to enable students to grasp the contemporary social change in developing countries in general (Tanzania in particular). It will critically look at development practice in these countries.  It will look at the liberal perspective and the emerging forms of organization and efforts towards sustainable development.  The course will focus on the various theories of social change and power which have emerged with the development of society. The course will examine both inequalities in agricultural societies, and those embedded in modern industrial capitalist society.
