DESCRIPTION

This course introduces students registered for the Bachelor of Arts in Law Enforcement (BALE) degree to the key concepts, approaches, and practices related to public administration and the administrative principles and best practices that guide effective organization and management of law enforcement functions in modern governments.

 

OBJECTIVE AND LEARNING OUTCOMES:

The course seeks to develop a basic understanding administrative concepts and tools required for effective management and administration of modern law enforcement agencies. At the end, students are expected to be able to: 

       i.          Define and exemplify the key concepts related to public administration and law enforcement.

      ii.          Understand the dynamics that have shaped the development of public administration as a field of study and practice.

     iii.          Explain how modern government organize their traditional administrative and non-administrative functions including law enforcement.

    iv.          Describe the organization of law enforcement functions and locate them within the wider context and rationale of public administration in politically organized societies.

      v.          Explain the rationale behind the organization of law enforcement agencies and their functions.

    vi.          Identify and analyse the ingredients and requirements for effective law enforcement, especially in the case of policing and crimes management.
